Welch Finance Manager Beaten in $3000 Cash Robbery
Cletus M. Harpe, manager of Times Finance in Welch, was beaten unconscious and robbed of about $3000 as he prepared to deposit funds. A janitor spotted Harpe slumped after the attack around 6 pm and police searched the Mc Dowell county city for the suspect, who Harpe said was a white man. Harpe was treated and released from Steven's clinic.

In Huntington on November 30 the state began presenting its case in the common pleas court against Mrs. Virginia Comstock, superintendent of Barboursville State Hospital. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the June death of 35 year old Miss Pauline Cook, allegedly from an overdose of paraldehyde. A former employee testified that Comstock watched as two patients held Cook, a 200 pound patient sat on her legs, an attendant held her head, and another attendant administered paraldehyde.

The body of a woman who leaped to her death in the Tygart Valley river was identified as Mrs. Myrtle Blaney of Pisgah Monongalia county.
