Gas prices rise again during Labor Day travel surge
BLUEFIELD The national gas price trend remains upward as Labor Day travel begins. AAA reports the national average rose from 1.35 to 1.50 per gallon in three weeks due to refinery fire damage in Illinois likely keeping prices rising through late summer into fall. Despite higher costs, 33.2 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more over the next four days, up from last year, with motorists undeterred.

FEMA registration lines close for Labor Day weekend in WV
FEMA teleregistration and helpline will be closed Saturday through Monday for Labor Day. Residents in 24 disaster counties must call 1-800-462-9029 to apply for disaster assistance, with 1-800-462-7585 for TTY. Normal hours resume Tuesday. deadline is Sept 8. By then about 13,352 WV residents have registered.
