Messenger's state trial set for September in Welch
A former West Virginia State Trooper, Gary L. Messenger II, awaiting state charges in McDowell County faces a September 10, 2001 trial date in the Circuit Court. Messenger, already convicted federally for civil rights violations in the Rose case, is charged with six state counts including malicious assault and burglary. Special prosecutor Todd Houck will lead the case in Judge Booker T. Stephen's court at 9:30 a.m. in Welch.
