The Graham High School in Bluefield will welcome 500 to 550 students in grades eight through eleven next Tuesday as the all brick fireproof building at Double Gates becomes the district's fifth high school since 1950.
A Tazewell County Circuit Court jury acquitted 18 year old Donald Davis of Richlands of murder in the June 15 shotgun slaying of Elmer Lowe, a result defense labeled self defense after testimony the two quarreled over attention from a Richlands girl.
A missing two year old girl in Dickenson County was found by an officer after a search by nearly 200 volunteers in wooded areas near Clintwood. Mary Bowman was located wandering along a road about two miles from home in good condition. parents unnamed.
Betty Jo Lambert proprietor of the Stadium Drive-In reports $75 in change and beer stolen after closing Monday night. Police say a window was smashed to gain entry. pinball machines and the juke box were broken into. Juvenile officer questioned a suspect late last night.
Jerry Snider, 19, of Roanoke, was admitted with a fractured jaw after a two car collision on College Drive Monday night near the old College Inn. Four others escaped with minor injuries. Rev. Luther Mosley and Patricia Murphy were bruised. Jimmy Vancel Church, 20, of Bluefield, is charged with reckless driving. Preliminary hearing set for Sept. 7.
FBI and Dickenson County authorities comb the Cumberland Mountain crest along the Virginia Kentucky border for R. B. Anderson, 23, wanted for a shotgun wounding. San Kelly, 25, Osbornes Gap near Clintwood, shot in the abdomen and in critical condition. Anderson fled across state lines and faces federal warrants for unlawful flight and other charges. No witnesses or motive reported.
The Bureau of the Budget revises the deficit outlook with individual income taxes expected at a new high of 742 billion dollars while spending rises across agencies. Higher crop costs, soil bank program, military and postal outlays drive the 41 billion dollar defense-related expenditure share, with national security programs absorbing about 60 percent of total spending.
Fred W. Johnson 43 of New Hope Road Princeton died yesterday at home after WWII service as a decorated hero. He received the Purple Heart two Bronze Stars and served in the Normandy invasion and European and African campaigns as a technical sergeant in company G 10th Infantry 5th Division. He is survived by wife Dorothy Fulkerson and several siblings. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Elbert Hicks of Bed, W Va was arrested on Commerce Street with a sample case of stolen Bibles and religious books. He is jailed on a common drunk charge with theft charges pending as the owner is sought.
Washington inspector Helmick arrives to discuss bids for Bluefield’s new post office to be built on North Street at Jefferson Avenue. Bidders may confer after 9 am. visits at West Virginian Hotel after 5 pm. Early January construction hoped if October bid accepted.
Courses scheduled for 25 state communities will offer West Virginia University extension classes in the first semester of 1956-57, announced by E. B. McCue. Subjects include history and sociology with multiple courses in each, plus men’s education.
The Bluefield Board of Directors backs annexation to gain fire and police protection for the Beaver High School construction site. The petition to the circuit court was presented by William O. Bivens, assistant Mercer County prosecutor, as board counsel. Residents like George Richardson urged delaying action to allow all area owners to join in the move, while several building permits were approved for repairs and new dwellings in Mercer County locations.
The Rotary Club of Keystone plans to welcome Moses G. Alley Governor of the 274th Rotary District for his annual West Virginia circuit. Alley, attorney at Williamson, is past president of Matewan Rotary and formerly taught and led Mingo County schools before being elected district governor for 1956 57 at the Philadelphia convention.

West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. reported nine month profits to July 31 of 13,001,000 dollars or 2.54 a share, up from 11,138,000 dollars or 2.18 a share a year earlier. Sales climbed to 142,678,000 dollars from 128,998,000 dollars.
An 18 year old Lamar man and a 16 year old juvenile were arrested for grand larceny after theft from the Eureka Construction Co. strip mine near Lamar. They face arraignment today before Magister Cris Barton. Police say 60 gallons of gasoline 30 gallons of oil and a truck battery were stolen Aug. 23 and used or discarded.
Meyers of Meyers Electronics Bluefield will lead the Credentials Committee for the 1957 Electronic Parts Distribution Show to be held in Chicago in May. Spiro, announced by show president Wilfred Lawson, serves on the NEDA executive committee and directs publicity for the event. He heads the Big Four Chapter of NEDA covering Southern West Virginia Ohio Indiana and Kentucky.
