Shriners Gather at Cliffside Park for Large Meeting

One of the largest Shriner gatherings near locals will convene at Cliffside Park on Saturday September 20. Members from the Loniville Kentucky Shrine and visiting Shriners from Kentucky Ohio and West Virginia plan initiatory exercises with afternoon events and evening refreshments. An estimated five hundred Shriners are expected with strong Beni Kedem Temple representation from Charleston and possibly a Temple team conducting initiations.

Steamship Peconic Disaster Off Florida Coast

Jacksonville August 28 The steamship Peconic sank after a fierce gale off the Florida coast. Twenty of her twenty two crew drowned with two survivors, an Italian and a Spaniard, who reached Avila Beach by noon after securing a lifeboat. Fatal Shooting Affray in Wythe County Va

In Wythe County Virginia on Saturday afternoon two white men George Cary and Dennis Moorefield quarrelled over drinking. Moorefield shot Cary three times injuring the intestines and bowels. Cary underwent an operation and remained in precarious condition as Moorefield fled to the mountains and had not yet been arrested. If Cary dies it would be the ninth murder in the county in twenty one months.

Trainmen Killed and Passengers Injured in Wreck Near Logansport

Logansport Indiana August 28 The engineer and fireman are known to have been killed and many passengers were injured when an excursion train returning from Cincinnati to this city wrecked three miles southeast of Logansport. Several cars with hundreds of people toppled over an embankment.
