Delinquent Tax List Dropped By Tazewell County Board
Tazewell County will not publish the names of delinquent taxpayers this year after Treasurer Norman Cook presented the revised list to the Board of Supervisors. The decision, supported by all supervisors, follows a push by Jimmy Jones and Earl Griffith. Cook notes collection rates near 97 percent for 1999 and over 94 percent for 2000, with more than $1 million in penalties collected last year. Delinquent cases to be advertised if real estate sales proceed. A tax prepayment program now serves about 2,500 residents, allowing monthly payments and aiding fixed-income taxpayers.
