Buchanan County advances in state industrial certification plan

Buchanan County moves toward state industrial certification by purchasing 58 acres on Slate Creek for an industrial park. Robber collapses during Bill Miller Bar-B-Q heist

In San Antonio a 49 year old robber, Rodolfo Naranjo, died of a heart attack as he tried to take money from the floor safe at Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. Two accomplices fled the scene while police and witnesses described the moment he collapsed mid theft. Autopsy planned, authorities said.

Tractors Roll And Horses Strut At Tazewell Fair Day Three

TAZEWELL Virginia deputies report that the Tazewell County Fair completed its third day with tractors in motion and horses parading near the barbecue stand. Agriculture Appreciation Day featured Lamb shows, commercial ewes and goats with Farm Bureau Federation sponsoring activities and judging. Ricky Snapp won the federation contest while Jeremiah Barnes took the youth division and Bob Corell won the adult tractor contest. Beef and Dairy farmers displayed top animals in a Narrows Livestock sponsored contest.

Tazewell Community Hospital participates in Today Fair

Market coverage notes hospital staff conducted pulmonary function tests and shared heart healthy living tips and free recipes. The event featured pig races greased pig contests pony rides bar rels and a horse show with ongoing fair activities including a 5k road race horse shoe pitching a pet show and a canine training demo. An open horse show for walking and racking horses wraps up the day with a ranch and country rodeo slated for Sunday at 1 30 p.m.

Authority halts airport fund drive in Bluefield area

Mer cer County Airport Authority backed the Princeton Mercer County and Greater Bluefield Chambers of Commerce in stopping the local fund-raising campaign to raise 10 000 needed for a 354 000 federal grant and 20 000 state grant for upgrades. The FAA funds remain available through September 1993 if 5 000 in matching funds is raised by the end of September 1992.
