WVDEP seeks info to help build dilapidated buildings program
In Charleston this year West Virginia lawmakers enacted Senate Bill 368 authorizing the WVDEP to develop a statewide Reclamation of Abandoned and Dilapidated Properties Program. The agency is gathering input from counties and municipalities via an online questionnaire due by Aug 31 to shape the program and attract funding. Floods devastate rural Tennessee leaving at least 22 dead
WAVERLY Tenn AP At least 22 people were killed as 17 inches of rain caused record floods in Middle Tennessee. Rescue crews searched doors to door for dozens missing amid shattered homes and tangled debris as roads and lines were swept away. Local cadet earns high Civil Air Patrol Baker Award
Bluefield born 18 year old Haley Tharp of the Mercer County Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol earned the General Ira C. Baker Award after meeting all qualifications and passing the exam. She resides in Richlands Virginia and was presented the honor during the squadron’s Aug. 17 meeting in Mercer County.

Biden says Kabul airlift accelerates amid threats and possible extension
President Biden announced the U.S. led evacuation from Kabul accelerated over the weekend while remaining vulnerable to Islamic State threats.
