Stocks End Mixed In Quiet Trading As Pfizer Deal Lifts Biotech
Stocks closed slightly lower overall in thin August trade as energy stocks declined with lower oil prices while biotech and drug shares rose after Pfizer announced a $14 billion deal to acquire Medivation. The Dow fell 23.15 points, the S&P 500 slipped 1.23, and the Nasdaq edged up 6.22 amid light volume of about 2.73 billion shares. Oil futures slid with U S crude at 47.05 and Brent at 49.16 a barrel.
