McDowell schools get design firms and plans set
Three architectural firms will design four new McDowell County schools including a consolidated high school for War and Saeger. ZMM of Charleston acts as consulting architect for all projects, Williamson Shriver Gandee will design the K5 6-8 school in War, and ET Boggess of Princeton to design Saeger and Panther elementary schools. Design must be finished before Oct. 1 with federal flood-proofing funds around $40 million and state support around $10-12 million. Community input on name, colors, and mascot will follow with an anticipated Army Corps of Engineers agreement by March 1.
