Miss Ann Troxier of Martinsville and Hubert Elmer Kiser Jr. of Tazewell were entertained at multiple pre nuptial events ahead of their Saturday wedding. Hostesses included Mrs. J. R. Troxier and several local families with luncheons dinners and a Forest Park Country Club rehearsal party.
The 35th annual convention of the Southern District West Virginia Federation of Woman's Clubs will be held September 10 at Concord College Athens. Athens Woman's Club hosts with Mrs. Carl Bailey as president. Registration 9 to 10 a.m. in the student union, luncheon in Girl's Hall dining room. Reservations due by September 6 to Mrs. Carl Bailey. New district officers and a state nominating committee member and alternate will be elected. Mrs. Paul Carriker of Bluefield serves as district treasurer.
The Appalachian Girls Service Club held an informal gathering in the assembly room Thursday night after their planned picnic was canceled due to bad weather. About 20 members attended with Miss Helen Sue Spangler and Mrs. Neal Rich leading games at Miss Spangler’s Wolf Creek cabin. Miss Jane McNabb supervised the food.

The document lists staff at Tazewell High School elementary schools and various local schools including North Tazewell Bishop Thompson Valley and Burkes Garden with principals and teachers across subjects and grades. An Aug 29 30 preschool teacher workshop in Tazewell is announced and classroom work starts Aug 31.
The First Methodist Church WSCS met for a monthly program and business session with devotional by Mrs. Riley Griffith and a vocal solo by Mrs. Byron Hipps. The World Federation of Methodist Women was discussed by Mrs. R. M. Painter. Eastern Star Lodge held a brief meeting due to the death of Bessie Barber, with plans for a school of instruction and visits from Grundy and Rocky Gap chapters. A luncheon honored Frances Mason and Rene Olivier before a Bluefield wedding.
About 20 Scout leaders from the Southern West Virginia Area Council attend a two day Training of Trainers conference at Concord College with sessions on basic Cub Boy and Explorer leader courses and round table training. Instructors include Dr. Virgil Stewart and Rev. William Lynch among others. Northfork Kiwanis backs one annual drive for all McDowell County charities and invites Scouts to the West Virginia State Fair in Lewisburg.

A jury awarded $10,000 to F. H. and Hattie Ellison in a condemnation suit brought by the West Virginia Turnpike Commission. The commission valued the property at $4,725 for 7,444 acres taken and damage to the residue in Jumping Branch District at Camp Creek. Special Judge Frank L. Smoot will hear arguments in Bluefield on September 5 to set aside the verdict.
Princeton city manager A R England spoke at the Lions Club meeting about current administration challenges and future possibilities. He offered coping suggestions. Dayton Neal’s attendance committee set a meeting for Tuesday Aug 23 at 7 30 p.m. at the Virginian Hotel. Jerry Bailes Jr. visited with his father Dr. Jerry Bailes.

Judge F Morton Wagner announced that all Mercer Circuit Court petit jurors are excused until Wednesday August 24. The Elks host a house party for members and families at 8 30 p m with refreshments. The Pettrey reunion in Pettrey West Virginia invites all relatives and friends to attend on Sunday August 28 with lunch buckets to be brought.
Mildred Hodges filed a damage suit in Circuit Court seeking ten thousand dollars from William David Akers. The action cites injuries or losses connected to an incident tied to Akers and requests court relief.
