Mercer County weighs jail plan amid funding squeeze
County officials say a new jail is the simplest fix to federal court orders but lack of about 400 000 in the jail fund and uncertain funding sources strains plans. They may abandon offices and courtrooms and focus on a jail only solution while considering costs and manpower. A panel on regional economic growth is set for next Tuesday at Western Steer in Princeton with local leaders. The article also notes that bristlecone pines in California’s White Mountains may be among the oldest living trees at over 4 600 years.
