Gray resigns over air controllers comments in Virginia
RICHMOND AP Virginia's Secretary of the Commonwealth Frederick T. Gray Jr. resigned after saying he would not fly while air traffic controllers were jailed. Dalton gave him an ultimatum, and Gray acknowledged the remark caused embarrassment to the governor. In Lynchburg Virginia College and Seminary former president M C Southerland agreed to return campus property to the seminary, allowing the board of managers to fund raise for restoration. Southerland suffered a June 1980 stroke and cited physical inability to face further lawsuits as he relinquished control of the leased campus.
