Virginia child dies of brain infection from amoeba
Virginia health officials confirm a 9 year old boy from Henrico County died August 5 of meningoencephalitis caused by a brain eating amoeba found in stagnant water. The case is the first in Virginia since 1969. Local camp operator Tee Clarkson changed camp practices and urged caution around still water while awareness efforts expand.
