In Boston on August 11 a vast assembly of science leaders from around the world is announced for a major gathering. The event will bring together scientists, researchers, and policy makers to discuss advances, collaboration, and future initiatives in the field.
In Philadelphia Cleveland beat Baltimore 7 to 1 with Powell O Connor Maul and Robinson as batters. Washington defeated New York 6 to 3 in the first game and 7 to 4 in the second with Dineen McGuire Seymour Grady Doheny Warner on the slate. Brooklyn topped Chicago 8 to 2 in fourteen innings while a second game was postponed by rain.

August 11. The cruiser Bancroft reports from the Isle of Pines that several hot engagements killed many Spanish soldiers and cost one American life. American fleet captured or burned many schooners and sloops to prevent infection, and the twelve inch guns from the wreck Santo Domingo were saved.
A Rome cablegram says Italy will extend eight months to Columbia to negotiate settlement with Cerruti's creditors under the Cleveland award terms, out of regard for the United States.

Reports from Montauk describe ongoing confusion as Rough Riders arrive but are not in the Santiago detachment. The government cannot provide accommodations or supplies, and laborers remain troublesome.

London reports Aust 11 dispatch from Madrid states the Spanish cabinet regards the protocol promoted by the United States as satisfactory and that authority will be telegraphed to Ambassador Cambon to sign. Hostilities are expected to ease immediately.
Report from Ponce dated August 10 and Porto Rico dated August 11 notes General Schwan’s forces marching to Mayaguez met about twelve hundred Spaniards near Hormigueroc yesterday. The item is buried among unrelated ads and notices for dry goods and cosmetics.

A Brussels dispatch reports a Carlist rumor claiming Don Carlos will enter Spain next week after a Barcelona meeting where leaders ordered immediate action. It alleges 180000 rifles and ammunition have arrived for the Carlistas and that Don Carlos may arrive Monday or Tuesday.
