Miners from Ohio and West Virginia consolidate to shut Bogg's Run and surrounding mines. About 500 gather at Wheeling area sites, with clashes anticipated. banks and industries brace for shutdowns as Fairmont Worthington and Monongahela meetings draw labor leaders and local officials.
At Orrumwa Iowa on August 10 a meeting of miners decided not to begin a sympathy strike but to assess all men 25 cents per week to aid strikers. Illinois agitators urged a strike and notices will go to camps statewide for a meeting August 19 in Oskaloosa.

The wet side won 411 votes to 28 in a low turnout that reflected a reduced city workforce. A prior January municipal poll showed 830 votes, with many workers away on the road or in shops, leaving the tally heavily favoring wets.

In Lirrie Rock Arkansas on Sunday Thad Butler and Jesse Pearson, both 14, fought during a church service at Butler church near Star City. Nip Taylor was found fatally injured near Kingsport Tennessee after a dispute with Tom Carroll. Separate incident saw Henry Bruner shot to shoulder during a woods hunt, with ambush theory disputed.
A dispatch from ConstTANTiNorLé dated August 10 says thousands of Armenian agitators from Persia invaded Turkey on Friday, killing 200 from the Migrini tribe including women and children. The wife of the head tribesman was executed and others mutilated. Authorities move to capture the raiders.
The Birmingham Rolling Mill Company resumes activity and starts full steel production. The Alabama Rolling Mill at Gate City will begin in days after a complete overhaul. A building boom follows, with over $500,000 invested in business and residence construction.
Consul General Haywood reports to the State Department that in 1896 American ships totaling 247 with 243,988 tons entered Hawaiian ports, while all other nationalities combined totaled 139 ships of 243,041 tons. An elderly Philadelphian, who identified himself as Colonel James Owens, appeared in Nomok Virginia police court on a novel charge for forcibly taking control of Sidney Jones's home at Baker and Star streets, ejecting Jones and throwing lamps. Owens was fined $5 and costs.
The Cornalla Family of seven ladies and gentler men performs world class acrobatics. Special trains shuttle fans from Pocahontas to Byefield and Welch to connect with railway lines for easy return after the show. Tickets available starting August 8th at multiple local stores. a grand parade starts at 11 o'clock.
All parties indebted to W. P. Hawley & Co are urged to settle immediately as the firm will conduct cash business. The notice, dated June 19, 1807, warns to heed the instruction to save costs.
