Groundbreaking starts safe sanitary flood housing in Wyoming County
Governor Wise and federal and local officials broke ground at the Pineville site for 27 temporary flood homes. The four acre fourpad mobile home park will include sewer water and electric connections with an estimated site cost of 727000 and a total purchase price around 185000 for the land. The project aims to move families out of the floodplain before winter, near churches and schools, and supports recovery efforts led by FEMA and the Corps of Engineers.

United Way delays Red Cross funding decision in Bluefield
United Way of the Virginias has not yet approved a 30000 allocation for the East River Mountain Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Regional officials cited budget information gaps and internal chapter upheaval as factors, with interim manager Zachary Brown replacing Charlene Meade amid leadership weaknesses flagged after a Mid Atlantic regional fact finding. The funding decision hinges on obtaining required paperwork before a possible board vote at the next meeting.
