Jury sides with doctor in malpractice suit verdict

A Mercer County Circuit Court jury of three men and three women returned a verdict for Dr. M.S. Hajjar in the medical malpractice case brought by David and Rhonda Havens of Montcalm. The Havens sought 275000 for the death of their son one day after birth at a Bluefield hospital.

Pennsylvania man guilty in Welch armed store robbery

John D. Edwards Jr., 45, of Nanty Glo Pennsylvania, was convicted by a McDowell County Circuit Court jury of armed robbery at the State ABC store in Gary in January. He faces a minimum ten years. two related charges were not proven. The defense called for acquittal on the verdict and sentencing was delayed pending further motions.

Blue Laws group optimistic to place Sunday closing question

Freedom of Choice Committee leaders in Princeton say Mercer County will have a Sunday closing repeal question on the November ballot. Co chair Charlie Collier reports petitions nearing required 10 percent threshold of county voters, with 2 421 signatures needed.
