Local baseball clubs honored at fifth annual Bill Cole Automall dinner
The fifth annual Bill Cole Automall Media Night Dinner honored the Bluefield Blue Jays and Princeton Rays for their community impact. Funds support two foundations and flood relief through United Way of Beckley. A red 1967 MG Midget, donated by Paul Dorsey, demonstrated at the showroom to raise additional funds with a winner to be announced at Beaver-Graham.

Teen murder conviction shadow follows man seeking freedom
Johnny Small was 15 in 1988 when charged with first degree murder in the death of Pam Dreher at a fish shop in Wilmington North Carolina. His co defendant David Bollinger later recanted saying he testified under pressure and deals. A hearing could vacate the conviction or order a new trial. If freed, Small would adjust to life outside prison and pursue therapy and employment.

Mural restoration at Sanders House reveals Italian origin and 200-year-old wallpaper
A mural at the Sanders House highlights Italian crafted wallpaper on strips rolled and reassembled on site. Restorer Borel, McDowell County native and independent art teacher, spent months cleaning, matching colors, and repairing tears to preserve the soft realism scene of churches and moors. The work involved specialized glue, a syringe, and careful removal of old glue without damage. The mural’s artist remains unknown, as no signature was found, and the provenance of the Moorish landscape is uncertain. The house plans extended tours through Labor Day weekend with a benefit concert by Ruff Kutt to support mural restoration costs.
