City Board hears housing and road concerns at first meeting
BLUEFIELD The new City Board of Directors tackled emotional issues at their first meeting. Resident John Melvin accused apartment residents of noise and alleged police misconduct, with 60 calls in three months and an incident where a door was kicked in. Police Chief Blizzard noted 27 Tulip Street calls and said officers faced chaos. City Manager Crabtree agreed to review code violations and policing steps. The board also heard Jan Shadbolt on 40 years of unpaved Ridgecrest Street and a plan to add paving to the agenda. Art Riley announced a youth center deal for the old Ramsey School gym with Mercer County. The board sought candidates for the Citizens Police Review Board Commission and named Deb Sarver to the Mercer County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
