Inmates Return to Posts After Work Strike Eases

At Huttonsville Correctional Center more than half the inmates with work assignments returned to their posts Friday morning. Warden Bill Duncil reported about 105 workers on duty and said no one refused work since the call. Helicopter crash injures Kentucky governor and six aboard

A military A-10 helicopter carrying Gov Brereton Jones and five others crash landed near an interstate in Kentucky. Authorities say all seven sustained minor injuries and are being treated. The governor survived without serious harm as investigators begin assessing the incident.

Escape from McDowell County Jail Shocks Residents

McDowell County Deputies and Welch Police hunted Friday for Willie Cox Jr. 37 of Raysal after he walked away from the McDowell County Jail as a jail kitchen cleanup near 6 p.m. Cox, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 150 pounds, fled through the courthouse door and down the stairs, disappeared, and authorities said he may head home to Raysal. He was jailed on a capias warrant for truancy and faced a 110 to 120 day sentence, due to be released in December.

Teen charged in death of relative in Virginia case

Young dancers open Main Street Concert in Bluefield

Zachary Lester age 7 and Roxanne Lester age 6 performed a dance and skit to Alabama's Play Me Some Mountain Music Friday as the opening act at the Main Street Concert in Chicory Square Bluefield downtown. Coal dust scandal sentences totaled in federal case

In Abingdon, Virginia, the sentencing of 13 coal firms and 15 individuals for conspiring to defraud MSHA with fake dust samples continued on Friday. A total of 57 defendants had pled guilty, with 30,000 dollar fines for companies and 5,000 dollar fines plus probation and home confinement for individuals.

Rahall plan seeks Corps aid for local water projects

Elderly resident flees nursing home found on railway tracks

An 85 year old man from Mercer County walked away from McDowell Continuous Care Center Thursday, cut through a window screen, took a brown satchel, and spent the night in the mountains before being found on railroad tracks behind the facility the next day. He told staff he was walking home and was checked by a doctor as a precaution.
