Cincinnati nurse Miss Olivia Stone says she met Ellis Guy Kinkead in 1918, aided him financially, and helped have him discharged from Cincinnati Law School after he refused marriage. She describes a thwarted romance and details leading to her arrest for homicide. Mrs. Kinkead prepares to bury her husband in Covington as she maintains faith in him.
From Melilla reports to La Libertad recount a small Spanish detachment at Zeluan of 200 under Captain Carrasco being overwhelmed by 2,060 Moors. Survivors say Lt. Bravo and eight soldiers escaped by leaping into the sea as negotiations began before a Moorish cavalry pursuit.
Morristown New Jersey August 6 police hold suicide theory after Peter Bender an insurance agent with offices in New York Chicago and Detroit was found on the lawn of Mrs George Barber s estate The Oaks near Morristown with a bullet below the heart A pistol with one cartridge was found and doctors say Bender admitted attempted self destruction when first found He later underwent an operation at a Newark hospital and letters purporting to be from Mrs Barber were found in his suite but she denied knowledge of him The Barber home servants say Bender called several times last night seeking admission and Mrs Barber says her husband died last Monday and she and her husband had been living apart
Amendments to the Capper Tindher bill regulate future grain dealings and strike a proposal to bar private telegraph and telephone lines from linking to cities without grain exchanges. The panel held the measure would deprive producers of market reports needed to sell their grain.
Beckley West Virginia August 6 Grady Mitchem already jailed for the robbery of taxi driver W J Hutchison near Flat Top now faces murder charges in the same case. Authorities say Mitchem and Ray Treadway forced Hutchison to stop during a ride to Hinton shot him and robbed him of $50 and the car. After an all day search Mitchem was captured while Treadway’s body was later found shot behind a warehouse in Cannelton Fayette County
William P Hawley died at his Walton Avenue home in South Bluefield after weeks of illness. A prominent merchant and public servant, Hawley served Mercer County as superintendent of schools, city sergeant, deputy sheriff, council member, and state senator from 1914 to 1918, where he chaired the finance committee. He was founder of Hawley Merchandise Company and led the Bluefield Telephone Company, among other ventures. His death ends a decades long stretch of civic involvement.
All Bluefield Telephone Company exchange offices will close between 2:30 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. this afternoon for the funeral of W. P. Hawey.
The county's new taxable assessments for the current fiscal year total 50 996 563 with growth from last year led by public service corporations and real estate. District values show Beaver Pond Rock East River Jumping Branch Plymouth and town totals including Bluefield Princeton Bramwell Matoaka with overall growth except Jumping Branch which declined.

El Segeundo north of Blunts Reef caught the SOS but cannot reach her before tomorrow. San Francisco lists about 200 passengers and crew aboard.
In Corbin Kentucky Richard McHargue a 45 year old machinist his mother wife and step daughter were found dead in their home near here Thelma Atkins 14 lay partly incinerated The authorities say after a prolonged spree McHargue shot his mother beat his wife to death burned the house around Thelma and then killed himself.
A broken flange derailed several coaches of a Lackawanna excursion train bound for Atlantic City between Lambertville and Moores Station. The last coach hung over the canal until the wreck crew arrived. Lives of hundreds were endangered but there were no casualties.
Search for Rev. Patrick E. Heslin, missing since Tuesday night from his Colma church, continued with little progress. Authorities said they faced a stone wall but had clues he might be brought to San Francisco, though they refused to disclose details.
Washington reports no bid matching Henry Ford's for the Muscle Shoals nitrate plant and dam project. The War Department previously invited bids from all industrial concerns and financiers believed to be interested, but none equal to Ford's submission were received as of today.

An order restraining John W. Worthington, held on $100,000 bond for mail robberies totaling over 6 million, bars withdrawing or tampering with six abroad bank accounts valued at 461000. The order targets deposits in banks in Germany, Poland, Rome and Pars, served at Woodstock jail.
John B Kennedy, a young Los Angeles insurance broker, was shot to death while digging for a so called lucky penny with Mrs Madalynne Oberchain near his Beverly Glen home. Police explored possible connections to a man and a woman, with Oberchain held as a material witness.
Billy Gibbs fifteen year old son of Mr and Mrs J Gibbs of Graham Virginia was killed early Saturday morning when a loaded 3 C Nectar Company truck struck the curb wall near the mayor s office. He had climbed onto the running board as the vehicle started west and was crushed between the truck and the building. local authorities and bystanders assisted as Dr B P Ratcliffe attended the scene.
Washington August 6 Republican leaders in the house ways and means committee plan a tax revision to repeal the excess profits tax and raise the corporate tax to fifteen percent. The bill would also remove the $2,000 corporate exemption and may apply corporate tax rules to personal service corporations. Public service corporations face no relief from the 15 percent tax.
Secretary Weeks and Secretary Denby urge embargo on dyes and chemicals to safeguard national defense and future war readiness. They argue high explosives and gases will be more central in future conflicts and promote domestic chemical development to counter German competition.
