New York reports death threats against Bald Jack Rose Bridgie Webber and other prisoners tied to the Rosenthal murder inquiry. Prisoners fear street violence if brought to court and emissaries allegedly smuggled into the jail. Police seek Harry Horowitz Louis Rosenzweig and Sam Scepps while Martin W. Littleton is asked to defend Charles Becker.
New York August 6. Bald Jack Rose testified that Police Lieutenant Becker acted as a chief graft collector. District Attorney Whitman released a written statement detailing Rose’s relation to Becker and the alleged illicit payments, claiming a yearly haul of two to three million dollars from illegal resorts. Rose asserts a full table of his collections was turned over to Becker.
Washington reports Representative W. E. Kendall of Iowa Republican will retire due to ill health after announcing he would not run for reelection. He is suffering from serious heart trouble.
Theodore Roosevelt addressed the national Progressive convention in Chicago, urging recall of judicial decisions, worker ownership through government support, and a broad set of social and economic reforms. He calls for minimum wages, old age pensions, eight hour shifts, direct senatorial elections, primaries, and a national health department along with tariff studies and anti speculation measures. The proposal emphasizes social and industrial justice and increased public control of government agencies.

Pittsburg Pa August 6 a receiver was appointed for the Great Lakes Coal Co a 5 000 000 corporation after a equity petition by George B Goodwin a creditor and stockholder Vanao Kiy named receiver by the common pleas court The company owns 22 000 acres of coal in Armstrong and Butler counties Goodwin a creditor of 880 and 220 shares of stock says the firm owns the entire capital stock of the Western Allegheny Railroad Company.

He cited West Virginia examples, noting a state librarian and a Black businessman as among the equal delegates, the first time two Black delegates from the state attended a national convention.

Chicago dispatch reports Robert Rodman of Bluefield West Virginia and two other youths were arrested on suspicion of involvement in a murder of William Meise. Police believe the others bragged and Rodman may be innocent.
Denver hosts the biennial gathering of the Knights of Pythias with about 750000 members in a week long session. The agenda includes leadership changes, proposals to lower age limit to eighteen, and extending the order overseas. A landmark Golden Jubilee observance is planned for 1914. Interhouse debate over the sugar tariff bill also stalls with no meeting yet. An effort to adjust differences is planned for tomorrow as the wool tariff bill is signed by Speaker Clark and acting Senate President Bacon and sent to President Taft.
Indianapolis August 6 Colonel Winfield T Durbin of Anderson was nominated at the state Republican convention to head the ticket in the coming campaign on a platform praising the Taft administration and pledging support for his reelection.
Charleston West Virginia August 6 special The conference with miners and operators continues with no statement for publication. No definite conclusion on the Paint Creek strike. Militia at 1200 men distributed along the strike zone. Mother Jones spoke to 800 miners at Eskdale urging protection of property. Miners promised to return to work tomorrow and to aid in protecting property rather than destroying it.
