West Virginia Considers ATV Safety Bill Amid Fatalities
A proposed ATV safety bill moves to the joint judiciary committee for passage and could reach lawmakers for a vote. No special session is planned as interims end today with September sessions in Lewisburg and Charleston. Eleven have died in WV ATV incidents this year. 25 died in all terrain accidents last year. Legislators Dels Long and Caruth have not yet read the bill. The measure bans ATV use on state roads, requires helmets for under 18, bars underage passengers, and mandates continuous safety training. A separate education panel seeks a fair grievance system for school employees to reduce litigation.
