Wood named publisher of the Register-Herald

Frank Wood, associate publisher of The Register-Herald, is named publisher effective today. Steve Smith, president and CEO, cites Wood’s integrity and regional ties as key to leading Beckley Newspapers. Wood will remain vice president of the newspaper group and aims to publish quality products for readers and advertisers in southern West Virginia. Smith notes the move advances the region’s marketing and communications strategy as Thomson West Virginia/Virginia sale to CNHI approaches closure Sept. 1.

Motel project eyed along Route 460 with sewer plans

Kantor named Betty Morehead as Sanitary Board spokesperson for the Route 460 motel proposal. A three phase funding plan covers the site near the Holiday Inn and a separate jack and bore project under Route 460 at John Nash Boulevard. Officials say the second site's location hinges on the King Coal Highway work. The interceptor lines will tie into Ada’s treatment plant, underused since opening.
