Stock market turns higher on modest U.S. data

Wall Street advanced in limited trading as the Dow rose 8.10 to 3,399.99 at 2 p.m. The NYSE volume reached 118.08 million with 878 advances, 743 declines, and 628 unchanged. Tokyo's Nikkei gained 2.28 percent while London stocks fell. Fleet Mortgage Group led most active issues, steady at 23.00 after an IPO priced at 23.00.

Inmate escapes Cass State Park work detail

Huttonsville Correctional Center inmate Curtis D. Green 29 of Fairdale fled a noon count during a work detail at Cass State Park. He was part of an 18 man crew restoring Cass lumber homes for tourists and had a Feb 14 1993 release date. Authorities focus on the Pocahontas County area while Earl Dean remains missing.

Community calendar announces regional events and barbecue

On Monday August 3 at 10 am the Fall Campaign Kickoff of the United Way of the Virginias will be at the Ramada Inn Bluefield as part of an orientation session. A Red Cross Bloodmobile visits Lebanon Baptist Church Lebanon Va from noon to 6 pm. On Friday August 7 the Tazewell County Farm Bureau Federation holds its annual barbecue at the Fairgrounds Tazewell with bake contests for youth and adults. Entry farms available at the county office in the Tazewell Mall. Members have barbecue only. guests pay 3 dollars.

Police Blotter Reports Multiple Suspicious, Theft and Vandalism Incidents

Vandal steals five thousand dollars in Princeton High break in
