About 1509 miners in the Pittsburg district have stopped work with Whitsett Banning Nos 1 2 and Darr mines idle since last Thursday. Eureka workers threaten quitting unless eight hour day is granted for outside labor. A 2000 strong meeting in Banning heard from United Mine Workers organizers and Francis Feehan who warned of a district wide strike by Saturday night if demands aren’t met.

Four Killed and One Fatally Injured in Train Explosion
Milan Tennessee July 31 Four persons were killed outright and another fatally injured when the oil tank on an Illinois Central fast fruit train exploded early today. The blast wrecked both trains on parallel sidings, setting them and their fires. The dead include the engineer fireman and two tramps.
