Bureau Inspects Ten Area Mines
The Bureau of Mines reported safety inspections of ten area mines, seven in McDowell county and three in Mercer county. Mines in Mercer included Crane Creek Nos. 4 6 and 9 of American Coal at McComas, employing 351 men producing 1300 tons daily. safety improvements were noted with more safeguards suggested. In McDowell, Lake Superior No. 3 at Superior with 282 workers and 1138 tons daily had commendations and a few safeguards. Bradshaw Mine at Bradshaw with 249 workers and 84 tons daily received safety gains and further timbering and electrical safeguards were urged. No. 11 at Caples of New River Pocahontas Consolidated Coal employed 70 men at 1800 tons daily with numerous improvements praised. Pond Creek Pocahontas No. 4 at Raysal with 45 workers producing 400 tons daily was cited for full compliance with timbering provisions and calls for additional safeguards. Premier No. 10 and Indian Creek at Premier, run by Premier Pocahontas Collieries, employed 209 men and averaged 800 tons daily with recent improvements noted and stronger rock dusting urged.

YWCA Plans a Youth Trip to Norfolk from Bluefield
The YWCA will take at least 60 Bluefield boys ages 12 to 17 on a three day trip to Norfolk Virginia June 1 to 3 aboard a chartered air conditioned 60 passenger coach.
