Aden April 23 Brigadier General Manning after an engagement with Mad Mullah forces relieves Colonel Cobbe near Comburra Schallen. About two thousand of the Mad Mullah's men were killed. The British loss is unknown.
National League results include New York 8 Boston 7, Pittsburgh 5 St Louis 10, Brooklyn 8 Philadelphia 0, Chicago 7 Cincinnati 5. American League games show St Louis Chicago rain, Detroit 2 Cleveland 0, Washington 0 Boston 4.
Washington April 25 The field for the Republican Vice Presidential nomination widens with George Washington Steele of Indiana backed by John Dalzell. Steele, retired from Congress after an eighteen year career, would bring Indiana strength and veteran status, with Dalzell praising him as a strong, suitable choice for the ticket alongside Theodore Roosevelt.
London April 25 William K Vanderbilt and Mrs Ann H Rutherford widow of Lewis M Rutherford married at St Mark's church North Audley street. The ceremony was performed by Rev M R Hadden in the presence of a few close friends. The couple's future plans remain secret.
London reports the Prince of Wales will soon travel to America following the royal commission to the St Louis Exposition. The visit is described as imminent and tied to the exposition commission.
Local lodge on Bland Street meets at 10 AM and attends Christian Church services at 11 AM to mark the eighty fourth anniversary of the order. Mutiny broke out on the American ship Edward Sewall at Woo Sing. Captain Quick could not quell the mutineers and called for help from the battleship Oregon in Honolulu harbor. Marines boarded the vessel and the ringleaders were arrested and removed. the ship heads for Honolulu under Edward Sewall owner Arthur Sewall of Bath Maine.
The Democratic committee announces G A Shirey and L P Ligon will appear on both party tickets after city council candidates from the First and Third wards withdrew. Former incumbents Jenkins and Thomas resigned. Shirey and Ligon are endorsed for wards one and three respectively.

In Middletown Ohio an explosion occurred after a gas flow was struck at a depth of 00 feet. Three people were badly burned and excitement ran high as authorities investigated the incident and nearby wells were checked.

The Pocahontas Coal and Coke Company names H W Shields as land agent replacing retiring Capt M A Miller. Miller began in 1884 as chief engineer for Trans-Flat Top Land Association then served as land agent for Flat Top Land Association from Bramwell since 1891 and retires due to age. Miller was born at Gettysburg. the "Cemetery Ridge" lands were his father’s farm.
Berlin reports that Russia's recent demands on China are not unexpected to the German government. Some indications suggest the foreign office knew of Russia's aims in advance and opposed them in some quarters.
Mrs Elizab eth Budd Gallaudet world famous philanthropist and instructor of deaf mutes died at her New York home today aged seventy nine years.
Washington reports that Senator Camden of Parkersburg West Virginia, long a coal field developer and rail investor, has secured an option on the Big Sandy gas field. The piece notes his vast wealth, estimated between 25 and 40 million dollars, and his ongoing electric railroad ambitions from Portsmouth Ohio to Wheeling along the Ohio River.
The West Virginia postmasters list new appointments and a discontinuation. Names include Aiza Underwood Alma Albert Locke Granville Prake and others, with several new offices created in McDowell Kanawha Pleas ant Cabell and Pocahontas counties. Cameron post office in Raleigh county is discontinued and mail will be sent to Giomera.
A Charleston report says the Steel Trust is examining the Big Study gas field with the aim of building a large steel mill here if supply proves sufficient. Local conditions including nearby ore beds Lake Michigan furnaces and cheap fuel via Big Sandy gas field plus strong transport links make Charleston an ideal site, promising hundreds of skilled jobs and a surge in prosperity. Gossip in Mingo county claims a Mercer ring influences the court over saloon licenses. A Democratic member was injunctioned, leaving licenses to the Republican and Independent Democrat who reportedly act together. Williamson Democratic council met to revoke saloon licenses amid fear the court would favor insurgent supporters of the Republican ticket.
In Smythe County Roanoke April 25 Wesley Brickey, whose wife died years ago, obtained a license to wed his son's divorcee. Rev Winters London conducted the ceremony then warned he might declare the marriage not executed if unlawful. Brickey was arrested and the case waits in Smythe County court.
