Army to raise regulars to seventy six thousand men

Washington April 25 It has been determined to increase the regular army to approximately 76000 men and to leave it at that number unless conditions in the Philippines require more troops. The president fund cabinet reached this conclusion and the details will be worked out by the secretary of war and General Miles. The artillery corps will be increased to the full strength of 18000. Cavalry companies will contain sixty five enlisted men and infantry may be reduced to meet the target. It is not yet certain what proportion will be stationed in the Philippines but a large force will be needed there for some time.
