Medicare and Social Security Benefits Boost Approved
Early in June 26.3 million Social Security recipients will receive a 10 percent increase in regular benefits with May payments. Retroactive to January 1 1971, lump-sum payments will follow later in June for January through April. A special 5 percent retroactive boost for those 72 and older without work credits will also begin in June. The standard retirement minimum rises from 64 to 70.40 at age 65 with credits, while special benefits for 72 plus rise from 46 to 48.36 per month. Tax rates remain unchanged for now.
