Large Railway Project Seeks Thousands for BC Alberta Route
Patrick Welch of Foley, Welch & Stewart says 7,000 to 8,000 white workers can be employed on 160 miles of Grand Trunk Pacific lines in British Columbia and 125 miles west of Edmonton. Contracts total about 10 million dollars with standard wages paid. The crew will include carpenters, blacksmiths and other mechanics, with 500 cars needed for transport. Some workers may be imported if northwest labor cannot meet demand. About 500,000 dollars monthly in wages and supplies will flow to crews and suppliers.
