Mercer County officials reported April 18 fires at Nelson Pigg Auto Salvage on Browning Lambert Mountain burned over 50 acres as tanks hauled water from Montcalm two miles away due to hydrant absence. Firefighters from Mercer and nearby departments kept flames from homes. no injuries reported. Commission president Bill Archer said extending public water to Browning Lambert Mountain and other unserved areas is a priority.

Abortion suit against West Virginia clinic dropped
The Women's Health Center of West Virginia in Charleston had sued for a injunction to resume abortions after closing in September 2022 due to a new state law. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said the case is voluntarily dismissed in U S District Court in Charleston.
