Ground Breaking Held For Virginia Tech Vet School
Gov John Dalton presided at Virginia Tech as ground was broken for the state’s first veterinary medicine school. Tech officials and about 1,000 attendees watched two draft horses pull a plow as the project began with initial funding of 1.25 million dollars from the General Assembly and 1.9 million in federal money. The facility will open in 1980 with 50 students and expand to an eventual 80 per entering class, serving Virginia Maryland and West Virginia with a teaching hospital and expanded labs and housing for animals.
