Russell H. Lambe former Matoaka police officer convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the December 31 slaying of Albert Lester on Matoaka streets. Jury delibe rated about an hour. defense moves to set aside verdict. Lambe free on 10,000 bond pending new motion and appeal.

A northbound Greyhound bus overturned on U S Route 52 five miles north of Hillsville Wytheville Va killing an 80 year old resident of Canonsburg Pa Mrs A Lee and injuring twelve others. Witnesses say a right front tire blew out causing the crash as the bus struck a bridge and rolled over. The driver C Badgett returned to Hillsville after rescuers treated the injured.
Pineville West Virginia April 12 Alda Roberts a 24 year old Hern don youth was found guilty by a circuit court jury of voluntary manslaughter in the death of war deputy sheriff Enoch White 44 who was killed last August 9 while on an investigation Roberts testified he shot in self defense The judge jurists move for new trial set for hearing Friday Earlier Judge Easley ordered a two year term for Glen Johnson 25 Itmann who pleaded guilty to malicious wounding of his wife in a theatre two months ago
In Los Angeles on April 12 Illeana Laurel filed an amended complaint seeking $1000 monthly separate maintenance. She claims Laurel forced her to live aboard a yacht and that he dug a grave in the yard at his San Fernando Valley ranch and attempted to place her in it.
Washington reports the resignation of federal Judge Edwin W. Thomas of Connecticut amid grand jury probes into his finances and actions. Attorney General Murphy said the inquiry makes impeachment unnecessary and the grand jury will continue. Thomas had been recalled from a South American cruise during the Manton and McKesson & Robbins cases and is under medical care after a recent attack.
James Roosevelt, eldest son of President Roosevelt, said in Southampton on April 12 that he came to England to see the British film industry in a calm visit and not on any secret mission.
London reports said Prime Minister Chamberlain would in parliament declare a stand to deter German Italian expansion toward the Dardanelles while leaving room for appeasement.
