Members discussed building a skeet ground, noting fire losses and high upkeep while considering nearby sites and a prospective skeet shoot to gauge interest for the season.

Weirton Steel Denied Court Plea in Labor Case

Judge John P. Nields denied most of Weirton Steel Company's requests for fuller particulars in the federal charges alleging violations of labor provisions. Witness at Trial Mortally Wounded in Slaying Scene

Jacob Wisman, 45, a witness in the trial of Police Chief Charles J. Monks and three other officials, was mortally wounded while patrolling stall shops. He died at a hospital after four gunshots. The four officials were convicted and await sentencing amid an investigation into slot machine and gambling rackets in Page County.

Fire destroys Blumenthal home in Larolmont New York

The estate of A C Almentta wealthy New York theatrical producer and real estate operator was destroyed by fire early today with losses estimated between 200000 and 300000. The 22 room manor known for luxury features including a gold leaf bathroom was a Westchester county showplace. Blumenthal and his estranged wife have not lived there for six months. Firemen arrived as flames were visible across Long Island sound. interior was a total loss with walls remaining and many valuables including antiques paintings pipe organ and tableware lost.

Russians Rescued From Ice Floe After Ferrying Across Arctic

Soviet aviators rescued last survivors from a shifting Arctic floe. Captain Otto Schmidt and the Wrangell expedition commander Chelyuskin were flown to Nome for pneumonia treatment. Fifteen others were moved by air to Cape Weller and then to Provyidanev Bay for transport to Vladivostok aboard a Soviet steamer. In two days eighty four were saved from the floe amid dangerous weather conditions.

Easter Monday Halts Mining Output in Pocahontas Tug District

In southern West Virginia miners observed Easter Monday causing a sharp drop in production in the Pocahontas Tug River district during the first week of April. The Pocahontas Operators Association bulletin shows output at 376,067 tons, down 138,766 tons from the last week of March. Calendar year production reached 6,012,004 tons.

Blaze damages stock at Embee's on Princeton Avenue

Fire originating early last night in the packing room caused considerable damage to the stock of Embee's ladies ready-to-wear shop on Princeton Avenue. Firemen from Central station confined the blaze to the packing room and prevented spread to other areas.

Fire caused heavy damage in a packing room with contents mainly cardboard. Firemen arrived quickly and laid hoses from two plugs on Bland Street and Princeton Avenue. They remained on the scene for over an hour. The building is owned by Lilly. No damage estimate available.
