A 21 state CDC survey shows most adults do not exercise three times weekly or 20 minutes at a stretch. The CDC says less than half reach a level likely to provide health benefits. Among 25,000 adults surveyed, 55 percent said they did not exercise as described in the prior month.

Bluefield seeks FCC relief to regulate TeleScripps Cable Co. rates by proving residents cannot receive three TV signals without cable. City Attorney Feuchtenberger says demonstrating such reception would be too costly. FCC attorney Richard Kalb comments on the matter.
Gov Arch Moore ordered the Board of Regents to abandon closing colleges and instead divert interest from large accounts to pay faculty and staff. Chancellor Cole said $1.7 million in construction funds would be redirected to salaries and operating costs, with summer classes trimmed if funds remain short.
Charleston Mercer County delegate Howard Wellman calls on Gov Arch Moore Jr to lead in fixing the state's finances and warns that tax increases may be needed. He criticizes the governor for an unrealistically low revenue projection and says actual income next year could fall about 98 million short of the budget.
