Survivor recalls near death during Fayette County tornado storm
Kay Persinger, who moved from Parkersburg to live with her daughter in Hico, recounted a brutal night as tornadoes and high winds ripped through Fayette and surrounding counties. She wedged between a refrigerator and freezer as the garage roof tore away, later surviving with the freezing unit in a neighbor’s yard and marveling at how she lived through the devastation. She described hearing rain and a rapidly intensifying wind as the garage door ripped free and tools scattered.

Saeger man charged after dog shot near ball field
McDowell County resident Norman Coleman, 71, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling after a dog was killed near a ball field where children were playing. Cpl. D T Martin responded to a 911 call and noted a witness placing the shooting at the end of Coleman's property directly in front of the field.
