Former Bluefield Virginia town manager Max E Bowen faced a misappropriation of public funds charge in Tazewell County Circuit Court. Commonwealth Attorney Roger Mullins moved to dismiss during a conference with Judge Robert Powell. The case, postponed multiple times, had been docketed to begin today. Bowen had resigned in January 1977 and was indicted May 9, 1978 for misuse of public funds. Roy Ruble, 74, of Bluefield area, was also indicted on the same charge and acquitted after a directed verdict earlier this year.

Suspect Questioned But Later Freed In Tazewell Shooting Case
Virginia State Police confirmed a man questioned in connection with the Scott Noble murder and the Tazewell County abduction was released after authorities determined he was not the suspect. The case center involves a Giles County resident linked to the Saturday night kidnapping at John’s Restaurant in Tazewell. Victims Samuel Ellis Smith and a 15 year old girl were abducted along Rt. 61 and released after Smith wrestled the kidnapper’s weapon. both were treated and released from Tazewell Community Hospital.

Princeton attorney Burton W Burton 44 a Mercer County businessman and former Young Democratic national committee member was found shot in his car near Mt. Horeb Methodist Church Princeton. Police say the gun was a .38 revolver and no note was left. He chaired Princeton Community Hospital board and held active roles in local politics and civic groups.
