Blue Island High Wins Season Opener Over Sionilli Club
Blue Island High School opened its basketball season with a 17 to 9 victory over the Sionilli club, a squad of former high school players. Seim starred for Blue Island and Biedenkopf for Sionilli. The junior varsity also lost 22 to 15 to Sionilli’s seconds, and Blue Island’s next game is scheduled against the Alumni at the Institute building on Friday.

Miller Promoted to Police Lieutenant in Blue Island
The Blue Island city council promoted Patrolman William Miller to the rank of lieutenant after he had acted as lieutenant since Lieu tenant Malmquist resigned. John Freeman of the Fifth ward was appointed patrolman to fill Woods vacancy, and Robert Airey of the Fourth ward was named patrolman to fill Malmquist related vacancy. The meeting also covered pending semi annual city messages and other routine business.

Mrs Will Schmidt hosted eight young ladies on High street for a baby doll party last Friday evening. Attendees dressed as dolls, played kid games, and shared pieces or stories with prizes for best performances. Refreshments followed around 10 o clock before departure. August Ladwig Dies. Longtime Rock Island Employee
August Ladwig a Rock Island Railroad worker with over twenty years service died at his home on Wood and 124th streets after a prolonged kidney illness. Born in Nuremberg Germany on July 15 1875 he came to America in 1888 and to Blue Island in 1894. He married Olga Gronke in 1899 and is survived by four children and a sister. He was active in the Switchmen's Union Local 29 and the S O O M Pottawatami Tribe No 187. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm from his home with Lutheran rites, burial at Mount Greenwood Cemetery conducted by Switchmen and S O O M R M.
