The Blue Island Commercial Association held its second annual banquet with record local merchant attendance and visiting officers from the State Retail Merchants Association and Chicago Grocers’ and Butchers’ Association. Congressman George E. Gorman praised commercial honesty and urged tighter cooperation to curb unfair practices while endorsing a forthcoming shoe labeling bill.

Fire Destroys Hennery on Grove Street

A fire at Harry Schwartz’s hennery on Grove Street near the Rock Island tracks burned fifty five chickens and eight ducks. The blaze occurred late Sunday in high winds with unknown origin, suspected to be a locomotive spark.
