Gill to Establish New Maple Timber Factory in City

Frank Gill of Ladoga has lingered in the city several days shipping lumber and seeking a site for a maple timber factory. He already operates one at Ladoga and notes local timber suitability. Gill previously visited two years ago for the same purpose but postponed the move. He runs a sizable heading timber business in the county and a local factory would raise demand for maple timber.

Monroe County Sued Over Pike Bond Assessments

Teac W Walker and Christopher Walker sue Monroe county board to compel a second assessment on lands benefited by the north pike to secure bonds worth 2500 dollars. The suit cites 1883 contract let to John Campbell for 18350 dollars and bonds issued not exceeding 21000 dollars. Plaintiffs own 2500 dollars in bonds. treasury lacks funds due to few assessments. Inmates at the Poor Farm Return Home

At the Poor Farm there are now twenty six inmates. Superintendent Umbarger reports good crops and ample stock with forty hogs valued as a usable possession due to high prices. Jake Chestnut, longtime resident, left recently hoping to shift for himself but returned after a few days seeking readmission and vowing to live out his days under county asylum protection.

Indiana crop bulletin reports beneficial week for pasturage and crops

The Weather Service notes numerous local rains and warm weather boosting pasturage, late vegetables, and ground readiness for plowing and seeding. Wheat and rye emerge well, corn ripens slowly but fills well, hogs fatten on wheat, and tobacco grapes and apples show strong yields in northern areas with cider production increasing.

The State Normal at Terre Haute opened yesterday with the largest attendance in its history. Two hundred ten new students were enrolled and the number of old students entered is larger than ever before. The total attendance is estimated at 25 percent above last year.
