Switchmen's Mutual Aid to meet over Simarott shortage and bondsmen likely to be prosecuted. A R U will begin Pullman car boycott June 46 if no compromise. Indiana car thieves abducted a man and shipped him to Mexico in a closed car. Colorado striking minors call militia for protection as tensions rise.

President Carnot was stabbed by an Italian anarchist in his Lyons carriage and died soon after as Paris and Rome react. In Italy, shops in Lyons were looted amid unrest while Vienna hosts a large socialist rally urging universal suffrage.

Paris dispatch reports President Carnot was stabbed in Lyons as his carriage passed the crowd. He died forty minutes after midnight despite doctors’ efforts. Cesare Giovanni Santo, an Italian, was arrested. The crowd attacked three Italian cafes in Lyons before troops restrained the mob.
In Lyons on June 23 crowds mourn and riot after an assassination. Police blocked the Italian consulate as 60 000 marchers demand removal of Italian symbols. Across town the Caf Casati is burned while troops stand by. Wounded official M Carnot is gravely injured in the upper liver with uncertain prognosis.
Reports describe Provident Carnot's assassination in Lyons as a mob tried to lynch him. Police guards fought to protect him as crowds surged, with guards using sabers and a mattress transfer to the police station. Carnot died at 19 43 after receiving last rites. Archbishop of Lyons administered the sacrament while he remained conscious.
