Verne Bennett pleads guilty to letting a house for immoral purposes, fined $10 and 30 days penal farm, sentence suspended. Isabel Raines and James Mair fined $10 each for visiting immoral resorts. David Nelson fined $10 and 10 days penal farm, sentence suspended. James Cummings given same sentence, suspended. Charges against Ethel Smith and Roy Smith for keeping a house of ill fame and operating a blind tiger dismissed on motion. Mabel Tucker sues for divorce from Louis Tucker for cruelty and neglect. Martha C. Scroggins seeks divorce from Louie Scroggins with custody and desertion claim. Nettie N. Steinbaugh seeks divorce from John Stinebaugh for desertion. Martin M. Holland sues on a note against Daniel Fuller.

Oscar Deckard, recently back from Texas and confined in a asylum, escaped and allegedly demanded a thousand dollars from his Denny in Marco. He then fled to Sullivan county uncle Dan Pitcher, prompting a pursuit by Sheriff Moss. He was captured after fleeing through a corn field and taken to jail. he refuses to answer questions.
Mr and Mrs Carl VanMeter entertained many friends at a six o clock dinner and a card party on Tuesday evening The Boy Scouts hosted the Campfire Girls at Lowell Welchs home on Thursday evening
The marriage of Mrs. Carrie Marshall Miller and Fred W. Gray occurred Thursday evening in Sandborn, performed by Eld. J. A. Spencer at his home. The bride, daughter of the late Dr L. P. Marshall, is described as estimable and musical. The groom is the son of the late Dr. John W. Gray and an ice dealer. They will live at Carrie’s home for now and plan to build a house later.
Dr I L Booze traveled to Indianapolis to enlist in the Dental Reserve Corps but found the division full and his services not needed at present. He was placed on the waiting list of dentists willing to serve their country.
The County Council of Defense meeting in Bloomfield last Wednesday failed to convene with only two members present, David Terhune and Mrs. Fannie Bain of Linton, while Dr. J. B. Young was out of state. Several patriotic and active persons were listed among attendees.
From Linton area, a board with members from Worthington to Lyons gathered but drew no outside support. An Indiana State Council push for full attendance failed as Greensburg orator Thomas Davidson and Pendleton’s George Swain were prepared to speak on Food and its Conservation, backed by Weis man and Slinkard.
The War Department delays sending draftees to cantonments until winter clothing is available. Indiana reduces its quota from forty to twenty percent, to be moved from October 3, with the entire twenty percent reserved for white men. Movement of colored draftees is deferred pending further orders.
Farmers planning an agricultural parade are asked to bring old and curious farming implements to Spooner and Hays' implement store and leave them there for the event.
The Grurches Presbyterian Church schedules Sunday school at 9 30 a m and a 10 30 a m service with Christian Endeavor at 6 p m. Next week is sociability week with east west visiting days and a goal of two thousand calls. Rally Day is Sunday Oct 7 and all services will run as usual.
Services at the usual hours next Sunday with a morning discourse on the Spirit and Government of Methodism in relation to present day problems. A patriotic evening sermon asks Why America Fights Germany. Evangelist Terrell of Elnora and T A Cox begin a meeting at Switz City Monday October 1.

Also offers a six room house for rent in the north part of town with basement barn sheds chicken park and garden.
George F. Johnson of Solsberry Indiana died after being struck by a fast freight train near Bourbon Illinois while en route to enlist in the Illinois National Guard. He was 19, left Solsberry to work in Illinois, and had just enlisted in Company H Sullivan on September 20. He died September 21 after the accident. Funeral at Solsberry Methodist Church. He leaves a father Joseph, mother Minerva, three sisters and two brothers. The community shares in the family’s sorrow.
The navy offers educational opportunity for American youth through basic training and shipboard technical instruction. The Secretary of the Navy says naval service gives boys in school a chance to learn geography by traveling, compare real world sights with textbook history, and gain fourfold benefits: service, trade skills, mental growth, and travel.

The Home Pelephone carvruiy of Elkhart county purchased the Chaka rusa Telephone company's exchange for 20500 dollars. The Christian church at Peccipins town awarded a contract to remodel its edifice. Crothersville State bank sold 20 Holstein cattle to local youths nearby Seuour. The TLederer Seibelian store at Terre Haute replaced elevator staff with female workers. Ohio Valley Haprovenysii association plans its annual station in Evansville on October 24 25. A new eight machine automobile ferry will operate on the Winte river at Princeton.
