Sunday visitors traveled from Bloomington to Bloomfield for a leisure outing. Mr Lampkins who serves as Monroe county recorder and Mr Delap, a local contractor, joined Mrs Faucett and others on the trip. The party noted fine corn and melons along their route as they returned via Cincinnati and Stanford.
The Owen County Journal notes visitors and travelers from Rushville to Indianapolis. Names include Mrs. George E Endres Flossie Messimore Angus Messick Dan Long Ruth Shryer Ella Moore Edith Hill Marjorie Wiltrout and others. Several locals travel for teaching, work, or illness with Rex Graham and James Rubright among those mentioned.
Edgar A Pipes, Charles Flory and Clyde Flory, near Tulip, were injured Sunday when Pipes lost control of a Ford at Buck Creek bridge east of Linton and the car plunged ten feet into the creek. Pipes had three broken ribs and cuts. the Flory boys suffered bruises. They were driven to Linton by Allen Williams and W B Maddock, treated by Dr. Custer, and later rode the train home. The car was wrecked.
Orville Hale, Sullivan County sheriff and the only known conscription age official in Indiana, resigns from the county board due to age and will be examined for war service alongside other candidates.
School opened at Clifty on Monday with Louie Spinks as teacher. A fire started while he lit a noon fire in the cold, burning the school to the ground. Children were frightened but escaped with books saved. Classes will resume in the Roscoe Long house until a new building is built.
Last Friday night all U S distilleries ceased whisky production as a wartime measure. The new law bans further manufacture, halts distilling until end of the conflict, and imposes a $2.10 revenue tax per national unit on wholesalers and retailers with stock on hand.
Miss Helen Cravens entertained her Sunday-school class of boys this afternoon. Miss Martha Louise Miller hosted her class at home last Saturday. Helen Humphreys marked her ninth birthday with a party this afternoon. Miss Mary Lamb invited a small group last Friday evening including Maud Cravens, Dr. H. R. Isenhower, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Brown, Grace Fields, Florence Moffett, and Paul Edmondson.
A destructive blaze sweeps the Ness section of Newberry, wiping out homes and triggering evacuations as firefighters battle the flames. Damage is extensive with at least one structure reported destroyed and local residents urged to avoid the area. Authorities investigate the cause.

Overnight blaze swept through the west Newberry business district early Saturday. A 40 percent quota will depart September 19 for Camp Taylor amid a farewell crowd with band, flags, and tears.
County Clerk E. Kirby Ashcraft reports the marriage of J Frank Cravens of Bloomfield to Helen Hampton of Worthington. The ceremony occurred last Saturday evening in Worthington with a post wedding drive to Indianapolis in the grooms auto, surprising both families.
A farewell banquet at the Williams House in Worthington honored local boys entering military service. Speakers included Dr. J. B. Young Rev. Sprague J. D. Myers R. F. Weems and James Spainhower with music by Mrs. Tasa Clifford-Love.
President Wilson issued a Labor Day statement to the new national army. He urged conscripts to uphold high standards of fitness character and conduct, calling them soldiers of freedom and asking the nation to watch with interest and support.
In a Indiana court conflict over Republican party factions, Curtis C. Hendren was sworn in as prosecuting attorney to handle the state's pleas. The court ruled the stalemate could not halt justice and Hendren will hold the office until the Governor appoints a permanent successor.
Greene Circuit Court opened a busy week with many civil docket dispositions and probate work. The Jones case was continued. Monday focused on divorce cases and a delinquency charge against Charles Acton, a Jasonville boy, for incorrigibility and rail yard trespass. the State finished its evidence and the trial was continued to tomorrow for the defense. The boy’s parents are divorced and the mother holds custody.
Lydia Abrams declared of unsound mind and James G. Abrams named guardian. Judgments awarded to Abe A. Masser against Chas Defley and White & White Co. against Jeff Hunter. Rose v Rose dismissed for lack of prosecution. Divorces granted to Edna Tanner Harvey Jackson Daisy Grounds Dio Brown. Several cases dismissed including Waggoner v White Ash Coal and O’Hern v O’Hern.
The acting prosecuting attorney dismissed the case against Dras Tur pin for gigging fish. The State dropped a statutory charge against Della Jones of Linton. Cleveland Hornbaker pleaded guilty to intoxication and was fined $2.00 plus costs.

Dewey Lodge No 753 I O O F Jasonville sues Mary J Parks to foreclose mortgage. Webster V Moffett claim against John Slinkard Estate transferred to trial docket for 3800 in legal services. Bement Rea Co and others sue Grant Lehman and Gray McLaughlin Co on accounts near 300 from sale to new company.
