Surprise 84th Birthday Dinner for John Huffman
On Sunday October 18 friends and relatives celebrated John Huffman's 84th birthday with a home dinner two miles east of Island City. About six guests attended after he arrived mid day to surprise him. B W McClung presented gifts and the group departed after well wishes for future birthdays. Comrade Morgan notes recollections of a prior charade by a man posing as a soldier from the 10th Ohio. The impostor, also tied to thefts and fires, later appeared in Bloomfield as Comrade Hudson, drunk and jailed. The marshal pursued him as he fled town after dropping ball and chain at work.
