Bloomfield Troop No 1, Boy Scouts of America, closes its first year with 21 enrolled and strong plans for a county Scout Tournament this fall. Committee members Otis Greene Walter Brown and Dr Mason join Q E Cain remains Scoutmaster with C Baughman as assistant. A drum corps forms and a weiner roast was held last Friday. Roscoe Parrish Edwin Fish and Glen Bryant recently joined the troop.
Greene County Red Men announce a Bloomfield pow wow on Saturday October 14 1916 with a public square parade in Indian uniform. events include band music public drills talks and parades from 10 am to 8 pm plus prize awards for tribes and teams with degree work and chief’s degree conferred by Bloomfield team.
Hon. Guy H. Humphreys and Hon. James Hudson lead meetings in Vicksburg and Center and Grant townships on Oct. 5 and 6. Cyrus E. Davis and Webster V. Moffett stop at Holtsclaw and Winters schools. Claude E. Gregg and W. L. Slinkard appear in Jackson and Nine Mile school houses.
A call for all Greene County residents to register on Monday October 9 to be eligible to vote in November. The notice stresses registration is mandatory for Democrats and all voters to participate.

The Holiness church in South Bloomfield nears roofing completion with significant labor donated by local workers. The town boasts improving prospects, several stores, and sturdy homes occupied by respected families.
Virgil Pake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Pake, found strychnine tablets at his grandparents J. S. Thompson home near town and swallowed them last Thursday. He faced a serious risk but is improving though nearly blind. Mrs. Thompson remains seriously ill.
The county shows 682902.42 in auto tax collected for the first half of 1916. One third will be distributed to counties equally, one third by miles of improved roads, and one third by license money. Greene county receives 2474.28 as first third and 3538.00 by mileage with total due 7505.72 and gross receipts 4831.00.
One hundred fifty relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Johnson in Center township to honor their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday October 1 1916. Attendees included Hugh A Johnson and wife Willis Johnson and wife and son brothers of Mr Johnson nine children twenty five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A noon meal was served and guests spent the afternoon socially wishing the couple many more prosperous and happy years.
A series of birth announcements: Mr and Mrs Edward Mc Elroy of Taylor township welcomed a boy. Mr and Mrs Ben Fields of Jackson township welcomed a girl. Mr and Mrs Raymond Combs of Richland township welcomed a boy. Mr and Mrs Elmer Flory of Richland township welcomed a boy. Mr and Mrs Barney Lewis welcomed a stillborn boy on Sept 28.
The Board appointed Alvin Bailey and John Chestnut as viewers and Samuel N. Yeoman as engineer for the Bedwell et al road in Stockton township. An election for the R. C. Applegate road was ordered for November 16. Auditors and election officials named across precincts, a drainage petition filed by Daniel J. Mizer et al. for Greene, Clay and Owen counties, bids announced for K. L. Ogle bridges in Stafford township, and L. H. Stalcup named for Poor Asylum supplies. Gilpin becomes Gilpin road superintendent, with bridge construction bids due November 8 at 2 PM.
Miss Winnie Slinkard hosts cards as Argonaut Club resumes season with a Tuesday session at Mrs. Cora Mason’s home. The meeting featured a piano duet by Miss Mary Lamb and Mrs. Mason, a piano solo by Mrs. Ethel Jones, and a talk on The Biennial by Mrs. Clarabelle Burke. Superintendent Paul Edmonson of the High School read on The Ultimate Values of a Knowledge of Literature. Martha Harrah named delegate to the State federation in Indianapolis Oct 31 to Nov 3. Louise Shields named alternate.
Miss Jessie McCracken substituted for Grace May while she was in Indianapolis. Bloomfield won the Bicknell game 27 13. No game is scheduled next Saturday. Chorus work was given by the high school Wednesday morning with Miss Helen Haig as pianist. Mr Bogard led the Physical Geography class on a Friday observation trip through Mineral and Koleen to Rock Springs for a picnic then via Park. They examined strata and plant life.
Marriage licenses listed for Joseph Gerin Idell Genester of Linton Joseph J Ellis of Clay City and Alice A Trump of Jasonville David Max Terhune and Pearl Edith Larry both of Wright township Arthur A Jackson of Sullivan county and May Mason were refused a license because Miss Mason was not a Greene county resident.

Stores from Star Grocery to Vanmeter and Company Hardware bustle with loading wagons, new stock, and repairs. Local merchants like Hasler Brothers, McCracken, Parish, Hannah, Burke's Drug Store, Miles, Stalcup, and Neidigh press service and sales as fall and back to school seasons drive demand.
Residents watched workers atop the court house cupola Monday evening as they painted the structure. On Tuesday a swarm of wasps gathered at the high point, circling the painters in a sudden disturbance above the town.
Harry Laughlin twenty seven a brother of Charles Laughlin of this place died at 2 oclock Sunday morning at his mothers home in Elnora after several weeks illness from pulmonary tuberculosis. He is survived by his mother two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 oclock Monday afternoon from the Elnora Methodist church with Mr and Mrs Charles Laughlin in attendance.
J B Frater completes a new brick three room block near the Monon depot and occupies it with his merchandise. A barber shop will take one room and a restaurant will operate in another.
