Reunion of Bridgetown RSL veterans and families

A Bridgetown RSL gathering brings together World War I and II veterans and their sons. The 200 plus members share songs, toasts, and stories, with feasting of three sheep prepared by President Lou Evans, ceremonies led by the branch president, and tributes to fallen comrades.

Governor General Freyberg Visit to Bridgetown

Lieutenant General Sir Bernard Freyberg VC and Lady Freyberg will visit Bridgetown on Saturday as guests of the Road Board. The function will be attended by Road Board members their wives and presidents of local organisations and their wives.

Bridge Town Moves To Clear Forest Land For Sports Ground

The Legislative Assembly approved a bill to excise 40 acres of forest land two and a half miles northeast of Bridgetown for a sports ground. The Bridge Town Road Board will advertise loan and statutory requirements to borrow funds for Leaning Tree Hill project.

At a Blackwood Districts Zone Council Butter fat Section meeting the Union pressed for Government Revenue funded compensation rather than a direct producer levy if the Cattle Compensation Act becomes law. The Greenbushes Branch endorsed the Zone Council’s stance in a recent meeting.

Youth Club Exchange At St Paul's Bridgetown

Sunday evening the St. Paul’s Bridgetown Youth Fellowship hosted Bunbury Youth Club for a buffet tea. After tea both groups gathered in the church to sing and enjoy each other’s company. Bunbury visitors spoke of a return visit in the near future.

Agricultural Society under fire over grounds conditions

The discussion centers on complaints about foul grounds at the Agricultural Society show with rotten meat and fly blown scraps. Mrs McLean urges action by the Society, Health Department, or Road Board while others propose better cleaning and bins and shifting side shows. The president promises cooperation for improvements next year.

Bridgetown Golf Club Advances Clubhouse and Fairway Plans

The Bridgetown Golf Club committee met Friday evening and approved improvements to the clubhouse and fairways. G H Randell and E S Hester were reelected delegates to the Blackwood District Golf Association. A. T. Peck received a token of appreciation from club members for his treasurer service.

Fourfold Celebration for Max Waller Wedding

Rovers Football Club members and friends gathered at Scott's Hotel on Thursday evening to toast Max Waller and his bride to be Joyce Sylvia Leon who wed the following Saturday. Fred Maslin led toasts while birthday celebrants John Fleeton Jack Gibson and Brian Walsh were wished many returns. Late night supper included ghostly sounds around fires as guests toasted the couple.

Hospital Notes At Bridgetown Hospital Update

Sister Radcliffe Taylor rejoined the Bridgetown Hospital staff on Wednesday after 10 months in the Eastern States. Matron Aisbett and Sisters Quayle and Pearse return next week. A Boy Scouts working bee at the hospital was held Saturday with B Green D McLean R Foale R Rodda D Blechynden and C Anderson among the participants. A two week demand for a boy to perform light duties runs Dec 27 to Jan 10, contact Mr Good.

Bridgetown Bowls Kick Off Pennant Season With Results

Bridgetown opens the pennant season with matches in Southern Zone and handicap pairs. Notable results: Bridgetown White 76 over Bridgetown White 63. Bridgetown Red 24 over Bridgetown Blue 24. Farewell for Mr. Alan Peck from Bridgetown Parents and Citizens

Bridgetown Parents and Citizens Association members gathered in the C W A Rooms to bid farewell to Mr. Alan Peck who transfers to Wagin. He received a propelling pencil as a token of esteem and expressed gratitude for his service as secretary and help to district development. The group toasted his future and hoped Bridgetown and Mrs Peck enjoyed continued happiness.

Bridgetown Advancement Policy Pool approves preparation of a district booklet for tourists. Major Whittell to compile district history with articles on dairying timber and the sheep industry. Photographs of Bridgetown and notable sites to be included. Funding options include public subscription or a subsidy from the Tourist Bureau.
