Christmas greetings, local advisories, and social notes from Blackfoot Idaho. The issue reports holiday closings and sales at Bunting's, appointments and visits of officials and notables, weather, commerce, and community events including dances, suppers, and church activities.
The News reports a Swedish colony of 40 to 60 families will settle in Bingham County in early spring. The site is on the west side of Snake River between Blackfoot and Idaho Falls, with many expected to ranch along the Western Canal south of the Berryman and Rogers property.
Readers, recitations, and songs form a Christmas program at St. Pauls Episcopal Church beginning 7 o clock Monday evening. Students from local families perform pieces including We Meet Again Christmas Bells A Secret to Santa Claus Like All Good Things and Ring Out Old Year with duets and group recitations.
A Christmas entertainment program at M. E. Church begins at 7 15 PM with song prayer welcome address and multiple recitations. Participants include Ada Matthews Cassie Wright Grace Cherry Hale Cherry Miss McPherson Clara Houck and Miss Givens plus a school distribution of presents.
Christmas exercises were held at the Baptist Church Sunday at 7 30 with an organ prelude processional scripture reading prayer and carols. The program featured multiple classes including Mrs Gage and Mrs Dietrich with recitations exercises and songs performed by the infants children and young ladies of the church.
The Coeur d Alene Press cites a reliable source noting Senator Shoup remains in the race and will be present when the senatorial fight begins. A local note says ladies changed for 15 ers at Gem barber shop with J H Mackley as proprietor.
Thomas McCarthy arrived from Wilford Idaho to Idaho's Wilford area where he uncovered an arson plot by J H Hammon and Charles Mason. Hammon burned his home and barn killing sixteen horses to collect $3500 insurance with a $274 premium due January 1st. Mason confessed after a bluff and both men are jailed in Fremont county awaiting trial.
