Local briefs report school year end in three weeks and a new high school bond referendum in Caldwell. Notes cover post office raises, births, theater dances, court notices, Masonic activities, sports ground improvements, and upcoming conventions in Lewiston and Weiser.
Governor Hunt appointed six trustees for the Academy of Idaho to be built in Pocatello under the recent legislature. Appointees include Alex Houlahan Rexburg six years J W Stucks Paris six years J M Bennett Pocatello four years W C Whitwell Salmon City four years Theodore Swanson Pocatello two years J M Bonham Rigby two years Houlahan a Washington county senator was praised for securing a seat and being placed atop the long-term list.
Miss Katherine Oliver, famed impersonator, gave a strong reading of J. M. Barrie’s The Little Minister at the Court House last Wednesday evening. She portrayed Gavin Dishart and Lady Babbie with gripping drama, including peril, rescue, and death, ending with a humorous Dutch narrative that drew applause.
Chas. P. Diehl of Springville Utah has purchased the Idaho Falls Times from Geo. Chapin and will continue as editor at the old stand. Chapin says they chose 45 newspaper man and do not intend to leave Idaho Falls, while Diehl will improve and enlarge the plant and keep politics unchanged.
Marcus Mester secured Thursday nine tickets for a Nome bound party departing May 30 on the steamer Senator. Ticket holders include John Toombs Daniel Raymond H W Kiefer Chas Berryman Jr Marcus Mester Ralph LaPever Geo McLeod of Blackfoot David Haas and George Adams of Logan. Prank Lamb and Ed Lamb of Lost River join the group. All supplies will be shipped with them.
The Eastern Star invites all to a social dance at the opera house this Friday evening. Dancing begins promptly at 9 oclock. Tickets are 1.00 with a 25 cent luncheon at Morrison House.
